Brian Yan is a second-generation Canadian Chinese graduate student residing in Vancouver, BC. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia, and is completing his thesis under the supervision of Dr. Marla Buchanan. His research interests include intergenerational trauma, racial trauma, traumatic stress, and mental health literacy. He is particularly interested in the use of narrative approaches to empower and give voice to underrepresented populations. By working with the Growth and Solidarity team, Brian hopes to gain further insight into research process dynamics, learn from fellow researchers, and broaden his perspectives in the mental health space.
